You can trace the 2250 roots right back to the first ever Regal produced back in 1969, it was at the Orlando site that Regal rolled out its first ever 21ft sports boat cuddy. The 2250 is testament to how far the US based firm has come.

The 2250 has an aggressive look and feel to it from the outside but once you’re aboard the upmarket feel is all around you.

There is a generous use of stainless steel around the cockpit most noticeable in the windscreen fittings, the helms position has a well presented instrument panel with an elegant finish that can be found on much larger craft.

The 2250 has been fitted with a sliding acrylic door as seen on larger cruisers and provides a perfect natural light into the well fitted and elegant cuddy area.

The 2250 can be powered by Mercruiser of Volvo units, however we would favour the diesel powered 190 hp Volvo D3 power unit coupled to the DP duo-prop drive good for a 40 knot top speed with a great range.

The 2250 is a great weekend sports boat perfect for a family day out or for couples who want that overnight stay. With an upmarket interior, plenty of room in the cockpit and a great sun and bathing area toward the stern, it would be hard to beat the 2250 as the perfect all round sports cuddy.

Can Porsche rule the waves too? Fearless 28 coming at you!

January 26, 2010

We all know the luxury end of the sports boat market seems to have the wealth of country bank accounts and I’m sure this is one of the main encouraging factors in this next review.

The Fearless 28 powerboat styled by Porsche design is an adventure at its beginning fuelled by the luxury end of the sports boat market which seemingly has the wealth of a country bank account and I’m sure this is one of the main encouraging factors in Porsche design’s entry into the world of power at sea.

This high powered luxury five seater rewrites the pages for design, focus and pedigree of the modern contemporary sports boat providing the driver with a focused environment for high speed boating and the passengers with a sense of belonging.

The Fearless 28 revolves around a seamless carbon-fibre reinforced fibre glass deep-V hull finished in stunning silver married to the upper teak deck based on the legendary Porsche sports cars with particular focus of their trade mark 911 and Carrera GT models.

In the beautifully layout cockpit the helm is equipped with an XM satellite radio, AM/FM radio, CD, DVD player and an i-Pod docking station all wrapped in warm beige and a set of up market display dials.

The Fearless 28 is capable of hitting speeds in excess of 80mph, this is achieved by a 550 horsepower V10 taken from the Dodge Viper and equipped for marine use but equally it can cruise along happily at 40mph giving a range of approximately 160 nautical miles.

This is the start of a great adventure for Porsche design with the future set to bring us a range of Fearless models, the 44, 68, 125 and 150 feet versions.

Butch Cassidy and the Sea Ray 305 Sundancer kid

December 8, 2009

Sea Ray International is introducing its very first 10- meter model hard top; the brand new 305 Sundancer.  “This boat is an immediate reflection of what Sea Ray stands for; it is modern, innovative and thoughtfully designed,” said Marcel Rijnbeek, General Manager of Brunswick Netherlands. “This boat shows the hard work and dedication that has been put into it by our team.”

Sea Ray offers the 305 in three versions; with a windscreen, and arch and a hard-top. She is fully equipped to a standard home from home perfect for that weekend getaway. As standard the 305 comes with a well equipped cockpit featuring a wet bar, refrigerator and drink holders installed throughout the entire cockpit. The faucet and the sink can be covered in the countertop too, creating more space on the countertop when cooking.

There is a single burner next to the wet bar if you want to whip up some kick meals in the cockpit a useful touch, and the final added touch is the L-shaped seats can be converted into a large sun lounge area .The 305 helm dashboard is user-friendly housing a compass, tachometer, speedometer, fuel level meter, oil pressure meter, water temperature & usage meter. This simple and clean design is something new and refreshing from Sea Ray. Down below you will find a spacious cabin, featuring a large workspace and countertop with the usual amenities, a microwave, refrigerator, sink and wine rack.

The 305 adopts a new “U” shaped seating layout in saloon that fits 5-6 adults comfortably and also converts into a king-size bed of 1.90 meters long with ample storage found in the cabinets and under the seating of the U-berth. The head is a fibreglass moulded unit comprising of a large mirror, toilet, shower (with curtain), sink, towel hanger and an opening port light,  a nice touch for customers who would consider long weekend trips.

The mid-cabin has been designed with a sense of privacy and central focus with a door closing it off from the saloon, once you step inside the main room you will notice a feeling of spacious feeling created by the unique sliding windows and screens that allows a good deal of natural light to enter the area.  The double bed is a decent size with ample storage from a hanging locker and upper and lower units.

The Sea Ray 305 Sundancer is an innovative piece of design, encompassing features found on yachts much larger in size. The new look and feel 305 will certainly attractive those in the market for a strong performing all round sports cruiser.

Statement 42 V-bottom – breaking the mould

November 16, 2009

There is an up and coming rising star in the exciting world of ultimate power boats and they call themselves Statement Marine.

They have 2 fantastic models on their books, however their latest creation is called the “Statement 42 V-Bottom”, the clue is in the name because this boat certainly is here to make a statement and give any owner a ride very few production boats can match.

This boat is not for the faint hearted and is an outright mind blowing thoroughbred. The owners behind Statement Marine have smashed onto the scene with one of the fastest offshore V-bottoms on the market, add a luxurious interior and a revolutionary suspension cockpit, with one of the best graphics paint jobs around and you have yourself a winning formula.

The fundamental question facing the Statement 42 V-bottom is it could live up to the hype on the water. Powerboat test drivers Bob Teague and John Tomlinson got the first opportunity to test the new model, which was fitted with twin Mercury Racing HP1075SCi engines.

Both were impressed with the 42’s handling characteristics, build quality and above all performance, the V-stepped-bottom boat cut through 3-foot swells easily and aggressively. This is testament to Statement Marine whose staff is made up from former offshore power boat racers who know how to set up a boat for handling and performance.

The Statement 42 has a revolutionary cockpit set up to ensure passengers comfort during what’s sure to be a memorable ride. The entire cockpit is suspended on large air bags, which act as a shock absorber, and the firmness can be adjusted to the owner’s personal preference.

Statement also provided lap belts in the bucket seats to keep passengers firmly planted which you can understand when you see the figures behind this boats performance. With the correct set up the Statement 42 will hit 62mph in under 20 seconds and if your feeling brave she will push on to 130mph at 6000 revs.

The test driver Tomlinson said the 42 Ultimate ran straight and was impervious to wind gusts. While running a boat at these types of speeds should never be taken lightly, Tomlinson said the boat felt like it was going 30 mph slower than its actual speed.

Credit has to go to the air-cushioned cockpit that reduces the hard hits and vibrations normally felt in V-bottoms.

Statement will fully customise the 42 V-bottom to an owners personal specification, the Statement we reviewed here had been fitted out in red tanned leather with pleated buckets and velour covering the dash.

All the instrumentation was electronic no analog in site with navigation systems coming in the form of Northstar 6100i screens in both dashes along with a Mercury SmartCraft system view monitor that raised up from the top of the drivers dash to starboard.

What is a very nice touch and something you may not expect from such a hard-nosed power boat is the accommodation below, a plush cabin with facing lounges and horseshoe-shape seating in the bow.

Indirect lighting behind valances and near the floor give the cabin a cosy and comfortable feel, dont be fooled into thinking its a weekender oh no, its just a place to chill once you had your head blasted at 100+ mph.

Attention to detail oozes from the Statement 42 V-bottom in its build quality and is reflected in its price, don’t expect much change from a million at $890,000 the Statement is a high end market product. However in its defence you won’t find many other boats that can match the Statement 42 V bottom for its performance, handling and build quality add the fantastic design and innovation and you have the  complete package.

New Sunseeker 48 Portofino due for launch at London International Boat Show 2010

October 21, 2009

Sunseeker will be launching the New Portofino 48 at the London International Boat Show in January 2010, it will replace the current 47 Portofino, and with the 43 Superhawk production stopped, this will become the British, Poole based boat builder’s entry level model.

The Portofino 48 offers a remarkably large interior plan for her size, the centre piece of the 48 Portofino is a full-beam owner’s aft suite with huge windows to either side. Forward, there’s a clever new VIP suite in which the double bed cunningly swings apart in a scissors’ movement to create twin single berths in seconds if required.

Staying below, the Portofino offers a large saloon area that consists of a plentiful curved C-shaped seating and is equiped with all the usual amenities you would expect from a cruiser of this size, Sunseeker offer a mix of grain, bold lacquers and deep glass options to semi customise your boat to your individual taste.

On top , the Portofino has a sleek design incorporating a long stretched foredeck fitted with cantilevering sunpads. The cockpit screen is neatly engineered and runs aft in a smooth well designed manner, behind which is a helm station with pilot seating, wetbar and full dining arrangement in a large 2 sided L-shaped seating layout.

Sunseeker offer the Portofino 48 in an open and hard top version and keeping with tradition the customer has a choice of propulsion systems between the in line shafts with tunnel drives, or the latest easy to use pod drives. Performance comes in the choice of twin engines up to a total of 1150hp, producing speeds of around of 30 knots.
