The all-new SR38 will be the third model in the new SR Sports Boat Line and represents the sixth new Windy model introduced in the past three years. The Sports Line range is a primary growth sector for the Swedish boat builder and compliments the successful Classic Sports Cruiser Line and SR Yacht Tender Line. The WSB team take a closer look at the anticipated addition to the SR Sports Line.
Centre Console open-day cruising is an increasing segment of the market across Europe and the US and is being driven by the flexibility in performance, comfort, entertainment spaces, utilities and amenities all in one package.
The cockpit of the Windy SR38 has been designed with both the helmsman and the passengers in mind. The legendary Windy ergonomics have been preserved and further refined at the helm station whilst the large sliding side doors of unparalleled protection against the elements when needed both for the driver and the guests.
The exterior design of the Windy SR38 reflects its purpose as a go-anywhere fast and safe multipurpose family sports boat with an emphasis on the practical aspects of boating. positioned in between the Classic Windy Sports Cruisers and the now legendary SR Yacht Tenders.
The design of the SR38 oozes high-quality performance with purposeful design arrangement and clever detailing coupled with efficient seaworthy hulls. This is down to years of R&D development and investment that has resulted in the new Sports Line hull design.
In the open position, the doors disappear creating the feeling of a very open boat. This feeling is further enhanced when the sliding roof is open. In addition, stand-up paddle boards, flite boards, fishing rods and bicycles can be arranged on the roof racks just like on your SUV car underlining the versatile nature of the design of SR38.
The deep-seating sofa allows for relaxing after a hot day in the sun and can be easily converted into a large double bed.
An option to add a door to create a separate forward cabin is available as well as choosing a permanent bed over the lounge sofa.
Aft, the customer has a choice of either additional space for storage and appliances, such as wine coolers or coffee machines or an option to add an additional aft cabin with double beds.
Stepping below the SR38 greats you with a thoughtful cabin space. Immediately in front of you is the convertible dining area that doubles as expected into a double bed layout for overnight stays.
To starboard is a well-appointed bathroom that can accommodate a wide range of amenities depending on the options chosen. Expect fit and finish to be of a high standard with a host of modern materials applied.
Although centre console open-day boats primarily focus on the deck area layout, Windy has ensured a well-appointed interior cabin layout that would be comfortable for weekends. Additional personal storage and a small galley area provide simple and effective accommodation amenities perfect for a long weekend stay.
The SR38 launch at FLIBS 2024, we think, will create quite a stir amongst the centre console communities in the US, as the new kid on the block from Europe, challenging the US centre console heavyweight brands is no mean feat.
