You can trace the 2250 roots right back to the first ever Regal produced back in 1969, it was at the Orlando site that Regal rolled out its first ever 21ft sports boat cuddy. The 2250 is testament to how far the US based firm has come.

The 2250 has an aggressive look and feel to it from the outside but once you’re aboard the upmarket feel is all around you.

There is a generous use of stainless steel around the cockpit most noticeable in the windscreen fittings, the helms position has a well presented instrument panel with an elegant finish that can be found on much larger craft.

The 2250 has been fitted with a sliding acrylic door as seen on larger cruisers and provides a perfect natural light into the well fitted and elegant cuddy area.

The 2250 can be powered by Mercruiser of Volvo units, however we would favour the diesel powered 190 hp Volvo D3 power unit coupled to the DP duo-prop drive good for a 40 knot top speed with a great range.

The 2250 is a great weekend sports boat perfect for a family day out or for couples who want that overnight stay. With an upmarket interior, plenty of room in the cockpit and a great sun and bathing area toward the stern, it would be hard to beat the 2250 as the perfect all round sports cuddy.

Who has the biggest “Boot” at Dusseldorf 2010

January 28, 2010

A selection Large yachts were always the hallmark and attraction of boot Düsseldorf. Only up in Düsseldorf can you see large yachts – unique worldwide – whilst keeping your feet dry and protected from the elements in the halls.

The location by the Rhine, a 120-tonne capacity travel lift and a ramp on which even heavier boats can trundle through the streets into the halls all make it possible. This year the largest measures 37.19m in length and weighs a good 180 tonnes on the scales. Even if the beautiful luxury-class ships are only affordable for the few, there is scarcely a visitor who fails to be fascinated.

Sailing yachts

The Cruiser/Racer Solaris One 60‘ (18.97 m) by Se.Ri.Gi., a world leader from Italy, sports a well-conceived standard layout, with other designs possible at an additional charge. The design reflects the over 35-year experience of the shipyard, gathered from building more than 180 individual bespoke yachts (Hall 16, Stand 16 / D21). For the first time in mainland Europe, Oyster is presenting the Cruising Yacht 575 (17.99 m): the sloop was created as a composite build of Kevlar, carbon and e-glass.

With four cabins, it is intended as a family yacht; one of the two cabins with bunk beds could also be assigned to a two-man crew (Hall 16, Stand 16 / C 58). The cruising yacht Jeanneau 57’ (17.78 m) from France is aimed at lone sailors, who wish to travel without a crew. The latest model is available with three, four or five cabins, which can accommodate up to ten people, and the tender is housed in the stern (Hall 16, Stand 16/ B 02). Hanse Yachts (Greifswald) is introducing their latest innovation, the long Hanse 545 (16.20 m). For its internal fittings there is a choice of three suggested designs (Hall 16, Stand B 78). Farmont Yachts (Düsseldorf) has its yachts finished in e-glass in the Turkish city of Antalya. The ketch Marleen (17 m) celebrates its worldwide new entry. In the standard version there are, in addition to the owner’s cabin in the stern, three further cabins – two for guests, as well as one in the forward areas for crew or children (Hall 6, Stand 6 / A 10).

Motor yachts

The Elegance 122 RPH (37.19 m), individually built to customer demand in Taiwan for the Drettmann Group (Bremen), is the largest this year and a worldwide new entry. The triple-decker distinguishes itself through its clear and elegant interior design. For the owner and guests there are five cabins and three for the crew. The two MTU 16-cylinder motors yield 7,300 horsepower between them. Economical diesel usage and great range are the essential characteristics of the worldwide new entry Bandido 66‘ (20.60 m), an explorer from the Drettmann Group. As the smallest Bandido it has only two instead of three decks, but is in no way inferior to her big sisters. The interior is equipped with three cabins plus optional extra room for the crew. In the case of the Drettmann Group’s Elegance 68‘ (20.73 m), owners specify to a large extent the layout and fittings. The one on display contains three cabins for the owners and one for the crew. A Böning ship control system at both stations are included amongst its highlights (Hall 6, Stand 6 / E 27 – D 27). Seen for the first time in mainland Europe, Sunseeker (Great Britain) with its two MTU motors can reach up to 30 knots. The client gets a say in the layout and fittings. The bathing platform can be hydraulically lowered and also serves as a berth for a tender weighing up to 550kg. The newcomer to Germany, Sunseeker Predator 60‘ (19.37 m) goes up to 42 knots, available in an open or hardtop version. A smart detailed appearance awaits you in the cockpit. The sun area projects out over the stern compartment and creates additional length.

The newcomer to Germany, Sunseeker Predator 54‘ (17.45 m) replacing the Portofino 53‘ has received new lines. Created in an Italian open style, it is a sport cruiser with a retractable glass roof over the helm (Hall 6, Stand 6 / D 61). Princess from Great Britain is presenting three new models. The up to 40 knot worldwide new entry V 85’ S (25.91 m) offers four cabins for owners and guests, and two for the crew. The V 62‘ has three cabins in the bow, and the V 78‘ has four (Hall/Stand 6 / E 41). Built in classic trawler style with a Portuguese bridge the Fleming 65‘ (21.70 m) from Taiwan has a walkway around the front of the wheelhouse. It can be seen at Arne Schmidt Yachts (Hamburg). The trawler is designed for long voyages. While the main deck is reserved for steering, eating and living, there are three cabins for six people one level below (Hall 5, Stand 5 / C 20). Sanlorenzo (Italy) presents as its newcomer to Germany the third generation of the 62‘ (18.90 m). It has been modified and brought in line with models 72‘ and 82‘, to a degree that the shipyard is already talking of a new model. The new one has an added fold-away bathing jetty. Below deck there are three cabins for the owner and guests, as well as one behind the pantry for the crew. As is usual at the shipyards, the owner has a say in the fittings (Hall 6, Stand 6/ D 41). Fairline from Great Britain has lined up the newcomer to Germany, Targa 58‘ Gran Turismo, a sport cruiser with a helm stand in a salon decked with contemporary fittings, three cabins for the owner and guests and, as an extra, a fourth one for the skipper.

The Squadron 65 with its fly bridge has four cabins available (Hall 6, Stand 6 / E 61). Furthermore, about 120 exhibitors are presenting models of large and even larger super-yachts, which are too big for the Düsseldorf exhibition halls – or which are currently being worked on around the world. There are also their proposals for construction, design, interior and fittings.

Can Porsche rule the waves too? Fearless 28 coming at you!

January 26, 2010

We all know the luxury end of the sports boat market seems to have the wealth of country bank accounts and I’m sure this is one of the main encouraging factors in this next review.

The Fearless 28 powerboat styled by Porsche design is an adventure at its beginning fuelled by the luxury end of the sports boat market which seemingly has the wealth of a country bank account and I’m sure this is one of the main encouraging factors in Porsche design’s entry into the world of power at sea.

This high powered luxury five seater rewrites the pages for design, focus and pedigree of the modern contemporary sports boat providing the driver with a focused environment for high speed boating and the passengers with a sense of belonging.

The Fearless 28 revolves around a seamless carbon-fibre reinforced fibre glass deep-V hull finished in stunning silver married to the upper teak deck based on the legendary Porsche sports cars with particular focus of their trade mark 911 and Carrera GT models.

In the beautifully layout cockpit the helm is equipped with an XM satellite radio, AM/FM radio, CD, DVD player and an i-Pod docking station all wrapped in warm beige and a set of up market display dials.

The Fearless 28 is capable of hitting speeds in excess of 80mph, this is achieved by a 550 horsepower V10 taken from the Dodge Viper and equipped for marine use but equally it can cruise along happily at 40mph giving a range of approximately 160 nautical miles.

This is the start of a great adventure for Porsche design with the future set to bring us a range of Fearless models, the 44, 68, 125 and 150 feet versions.

Superman test for the new Azimut Magellano 74

December 16, 2009

Sometimes there are boat tests that are done that stand out from the usual tests done by the Manufactureres and leading industry bodies, and here is such a time.

From Italy to winter and back. The mission of ”My Voyage” is the severest test for a new type of yacht: the Azimut Magellano 74

My Voyage sets out from Varazze: the extraordinary sea trial of the new Azimut Magellano 74, with Rosita Missoni as godmother also Italian national soccer team coach Marcello Lippi among the friends who came to hail the Magellano’s departure 4000 nautical miles in the heart of winter in the Mediterranean to experience the pleasures and intensity of slow cruising.

Prestigious testers for the Azimut Megallano: Vittorio Missoni and the pilot Heinz-Harald Frentzen Saturday, 21 November, at 6:00 p.m., the Azimut Magellano 74 left the dock of Varazze Marina under the eye of the Yacht&Sail Channel’s television cameras and an enthusiastic crowd. Thus began “My Voyage”, a 4000-nautical mile cruise through the heart of the Mediterranean that, taken in wintertime, represents a severe test (Magellano is designed to sail in any weather conditions and with moderate or rough seas). The trip is as ambitious as it is challenging: from Europe to Africa, from the Italian Riviera to France, the Costa Brava, Palma de Mallorca and Sardinia, and then Tunisia after coasting along the fascinating and wild Sahara coasts. The return to Viareggio is scheduled for December 15th after stops in Malta and Rome. A first tour that will offer the team on board a chance to rediscover the pleasure of “sailing for sailing’s sake”, at a cruising speed of 11-12 knots, a pace that will make it possible to live the sea in all its facets and an invitation to stop and appreciate nature by making the most of precious occasions for contemplation that would otherwise be wasted. Magellano’s particular design also offers the possibility of reaching speeds of 24 knots when necessary, a reserve of power that makes the boat even safer and more interesting.

The day began very early, with the official launch by Azimut-Benetti Group President Paolo Vitelli, who had the pleasure and good fortune to be flanked by an exceptional godmother like Rosita Missoni. Signora Missoni, in turn accompanied by her husband, the noted fashion house’s creator, Ottavio Missoni, helped personalize the boat with enthusiasm and extraordinary creativity, adding the finishing touches to the interior furnishings, all by the Missoni Home Division, with her own hands and a care that can truly be defined as “loving”. The list of personalities present at the event included Marcello Lippi – who with an Azimut 62 berthed at the Viareggio Marina is a great friend of Azimut Yachts – expressed words of admiration, highlighting the teamwork that made it possible to build such an advanced boat that combines the spirit of adventure with comfort, freedom and safety.

In the course of the morning yacht owners were able to tour the Magellano and experience for the first time its comfort and its outstanding sailing qualities. Mingling with VIPs and the public, perhaps the most excited were the members of the team behind the Magellano project and its design and construction, from Azimut Yachts CEO Federico Martini to Ken Freivokh, Bill Dixon and Luca Cristino, respectively the designer of the boat, the designer of the underbody and the head of the project. For all them and for Azimut Yachts, Magellano represents a big win. A new model that takes its place as the point of reference of a new segment, launched in a particular moment like the current one, and what’s more together with another seven models, all present in Varazze to give even more importance and meaning to the event.

At Magellano’s helm is Dag Pike, the noted English journalist, one of the world’s most expert seamen who was recently decorated with the title “Yachtsman of the Year”. For once his mission isn’t racing against time to set speed records but, on the contrary, to find a new dimension of sailing: slowly, savoring mile after mile the delights of an environment designed to enhance the pleasures of company, good food and being together. Sharing the adventure of “My Voyage” is Jessica Taylor, one of the few English women ship captains, Alex Pino, an expert sailor and close friend of Dag Pike, and Manfredo Pinzauti, a photographer who, free from maneuvers and shipboard duties, has the pleasant task of documenting the undertaking. His photographs will be posted on Flickr (account: Magellano My Voyage).

Magellano will be awaited in Tunisia by the cameras of Yacht&Sail Channel as well as an exceptional crew. Former Formula 1 driver Frentzen and Vittorio Missoni will board, plus Frank and Fiona Walker, an English couple with a rich professional curriculum: politics and diplomacy for him, television journalism for her. Both sea lovers, they decided to sail around the world and therefore enthusiastically accepted to be part of the Magellano project.

A diverse group of VIPs, creatives and sports champions, held together by a great passion for the sea. They will be the ones who truly put this new approach to sailing to the test. Along the coasts of the wild Tunisian islands they will experience the intensity of slow cruising, the pleasure of sharing the elegant concreteness of a large open space, the exclusive comfort of a boat built to multiply the emotions.

My Voyage’s partners include Missoni, which for the occasion dresses the Magellano with Missoni Home fabrics and the crew with its fashion creations, Caterpillar, which designed the engines selected for the Magellano by Azimut Yachts, and Gallinea, whose Innovation for Boats division realizes technical applications aimed at improving the onboard living experience.

Magellano is a boat that appeals to a broad public, that of lovers of the sea. For this reason Azimut Yachts wanted to share this event – lived with great intensity both on board and ashore – with all the fans, who can follow the cruise live online by connecting to the blog that posts the onboard accounts (http://magellanomyvoyage.azimutyachts.com). The blog in turn contains the links to reach the films shot during the days, posted on YouTube, as well as the images published on Flickr

We wish to thank Azimut for the pictures and the content release and wish them luck on this exciting and benchmarking voyage with the Azimut  Magellano 74.

From the beaches of Miami to the Italian Rivera,  Azimut will turn the heads of those who clamp eyes on their sleek modern 116 superyacht. The Italians have a real passion when it comes to designing machines of luxury and the Azimut 116 certainly fits neatly into the bracket of desirability.

The Azimut 116 sits beautifully with the light reflecting between the water and her unique reflective windows, providing privacy to her occupants and a design spectacle to those who gaze upon her.

She comes with a convertible top that provides complete coverage of the fly deck taking in to account not to spoil your experience within the jacuzzi and the entertaining space aft.

The classic Italian verve for creating beautiful places to be is clearly illustrated in the main lounge area, consisting of elegant wood floors and leather couches. An array of electronic systems and interior materials are available to customers wishing to individualise their yacht.

This example of one of the en-suite guest rooms provides an insight to the clean cut lines on board the Azimut, warm and inviting with a functional feel that would have you believing you’re within the walls of a 5 star hotel room but for the port holes on the wall rather than a conventional window.

The cross sections show a well engineered and thought out 3 deck design, customers have the choice of 3 layouts and countless ways in which to style the inside to individuals tastes.

The Azimut 116 is powered by twin MTU V16 2000 M93’s producing 2434 mHP, allowing her to cruise comfortably at 24 knots (half load) and go onto a top speed of 28 knots (half load). Impressive for 35.46 meter yacht with 7.40 meter beam and at full load she has a displacement of 143 tons.

The Azimut 116 is a shining example of the Italian boat designers vision of luxury on the water, she is a serious contender in the lower end super yacht market amongst some strong competition.
